What is Important in Life
What is important in life? Most of us are only on this earth for 70 to 80 some years, how do we make sure that our lives are lived in a manner consistent with our core values and reach the full potential we are as humans? Sadly, most of us get so distracted with the “noise” in our lives that we lose sight of the keys of happiness. Most behavioral psychologists tell us you cannot achieve the highest levels of satisfaction until you become truly happy with yourself and put yourself ahead of anything else in life. Until you love your self, it is impossible to really love anyone else. This is not about vanity or egotism, most people that suffer from those conditions really do not love themselves, they love putting someone else down to make themselves feel better. That is not the definition of self-love, it is more the feeling of inner peace and satisfaction of who you are that allows you to reach the highest levels.
I am in the solution business. Nobody contacts me without a problem or a perceived problem. I look to help people find some of this elusive happiness, give them some “room” to live. Change their lifestyle, enjoy their retirement, relieve the stress of making debt payments. The key is to seek out what can make your live better now and in the future.
I like to point out to interested parties that if you had $200,000 sitting in a bank account, would you never touch that money because it would be better used as an inheritance? Would you not use the money to do things, fix up the house, travel, pay off credit cards, buy a car or pay medical expenses; instead you would suffer in silence, denying yourself the happiness you deserve? Is that any different than the person with a $350,000 home with no mortgage who could access around $200,000 from a product like a reverse mortgage? Use the money to live life, take care of expenses and try to find that inner peace instead of worrying about money.
Worry. Worry is commonly referred to as negative goal setting. Instead of doing something about a situation, we worry. This let’s us off the hook and we can rationalize that we did something and we prepare for the inevitable worst possible outcome to the situation. If we take a problem and do something to improve the situation and start to visualize better outcomes than the worst, the problem has a chance to being solved. What I’m saying is most of us will worry about something instead of having the courage to believe in a positive outcome and then do something to improve it. We all have the power to help ourselves, we all have the power to believe good things can happen to us and that we deserve a positive outcome.
I see hundreds of Shore residents every year struggle with what to do to improve their situation. There is no time like the present to eliminate worry from your life and do something to find the inner peace and self love that makes life worth the battle.
